故事开始于林肯总统遇刺身亡之后，有八人因为谋杀总统而遭到了逮捕，42岁的玛丽（罗宾·怀特 Robin Wright 饰）是其中唯一的女性，玛丽经营着一间家庭旅馆，而刺杀总统的全部计划都是在这间旅馆的某个房间里诞生的。艾肯（詹姆斯·麦卡沃伊 James McAvoy 饰）是一位初出茅庐年轻有为的律师，他奉命为玛丽辩护，虽然艾肯知道就算有他的辩护，玛丽还是难逃死刑的惩罚，但还是决定走一遍流程。 　　然而，在和玛丽沟通交流后，艾肯渐渐开始怀疑，玛丽真的是无辜的，她只不过是被威胁和被利用的人质。没有人相信玛丽的清白，她的命完完整整的被捏在艾肯的手中。

　　Gilded by a soundscape that interweaves work by emerging and pioneering electronic musicians, Queens of the Qing Dynasty is an offbeat ode to neurodiversity and genderqueer individuals who refuse to conform. Director Ashley McKenzie’s blend of formalism and gritty realism does not fail to surprise and treats the audience to flashes of visual and conceptual poetry. Her cast is entirely composed of first-time actors who convincingly convey how unique every individual is, both in how they see the world and how they relate to others. Ziyin Zheng in the role of An graciously embodies a mix of idiosyncrasy and frankness that makes them an ideal confidante for Star (Sarah Walker). They have what it takes to be on the receiving end of the scrutinising gaze of Star, who sees through conventions and never ceases to be amazed at life’s bewildering events. Veering on slapstick, Walker’s performance will not go unnoticed.

　　孪生兄弟龙尼·克雷和雷吉·克雷出生后由意志坚强的母亲维奥莱特和两个姨妈抚养成人，两兄弟从小生活在女人堆里，对妇女产生了敬畏的感情。50年代，已长大成人的克雷兄弟变得冷酷无情了，喜欢暴力。克雷兄弟在伦敦接收了一个行将倒闭的弹子房，改造成一家夜总会。雷吉看上了青年姑娘弗朗西丝便和她结了婚。这引起了龙尼的妒忌。他带来姨妈罗丝的噩耗，打断了雷吉和弗朗西丝的蜜月。60 年代，克雷兄弟得到了美国下层社会匪帮的支持，吞并了了他们对立的马耳他匪帮的地盘，扩大了他们的王国。此时，弗朗西丝受到周围黑社会沉重的压力，而且不能与她的婆婆相处，她越来越神经过敏，郁郁寡欢，终于自杀了。这给雷吉打击很大，他得了抑郁症而精神崩溃。龙尼为了帮助他的弟弟从绝望中挣脱出来，两兄弟便向他们的敌人发起攻击。

哲学系学生肖墨到殡仪馆实习，试图探寻“生死”答案，却遭遇导师陈辉离奇死亡。村里流传一口“应声井”可让人起死回生。陈辉之子死于事故后，陈辉在古井许愿，次日离奇失踪。肖墨随神秘殡葬师老白头返村调查，老白头以科学逐一破解“灵异”现象：井中尸体、养女上吊、浓雾里的鬼打墙等怪事背后皆是精心布局的骗局。当执念遭遇科学，谎言被真相撕裂，众人方知真正的深渊不在井里，而在人心。

本剧改编自宫部美雪的小说，讲述了日本桥通町一膳饭店的看板娘阿初从小开朗活泼，但以某事件为契机觉醒了能看见听见一般人看不见听不见的东西的通灵力量，从此与草食系武士学徒古泽右京之介组成凹凸搭档，共同面对并挑战怪异奇谈事件。最先是死去的男人苏醒了，不久后又发生了被认为是死人附身所致的杀人事件。杀人事件和死人附身，忠臣藏和颤动岩，两个谜团剧烈地起伏着，展现出了意想不到的联系…
