A village in Ukraine, near the Russian border. The only thing that slightly disturbs the peace there is the occasional death of an elderly person. That is also why Anatoly returns there: to take care of his dying mother.
Two fathers, Uncle Lim and Uncle Lam live in an old folks’ home. Uncle Lim is Hokkien while Uncle Lam is Cantonese. Apart from integral differences of different dialects (e.g. fighting over WLT and HHD), they always argue about whose children has done better and how filial piety they have been. While Uncle Lim thinks that he may have gotten cancer and don’t have much opportunities to see his children again, and aggravated by an argument, the two men decided to escape from the old folk’s home to find their children and bring back evidence so that the rest of their friends can judge whose children is better. While trying to escape, Uncle Lam hurt his leg leaving Uncle Lim to continue his journey alone......
I can see people will either love or hate this movie, depending on your own experiences and loves. Its basically about a incredibly obese police officer coming to terms with his own mortality (he is given a year to live at the start of the movie). It has other bits and pieces in the plot (love, mystery etc), but these are not the central ideal of the movie. I found myself crying in many parts of this movie, for myself being fat (and have been my entire life... of course not to the degree of the main actor, but to a degree which has caused bullying my entire life) this story hits very close to home. And some of the subtle emotional behind the scene's stuff here definitely adds to the mood. Anyone who has had any sort of eating disorder (over or under eating whatever) will recognise things in this movie, and will more then likely be in tears by the first 30 minutes of the movie.
As the world prays for a breakthrough at the latest round of Middle-East peace talks, a film that shows the conflict from the inside, and why the talks will fail. Filmed during the 2009 Gaza War, three conflicted, Jewish-Israelis, navigate toward their differing visions of Israel’s future: and thereby the future of the conflict itself. The Teacher: Erez, an ideological settler,...
A mellow movie about a woman who is tired of the meaningless life with a husband who doesn't even remember her name and a hopeless young man who drives a taxi.
