这部剧集是上世纪九十年代最流行的情景喜剧《Seinfeld》的主创之一拉里·大卫(Larry David)自编自演，根据他在洛杉矶影艺圈的生活创造的喜剧。他把《Seinfeld》的风格推向极端化。HBO因是有线电视所以不需要很大的观众圈，所以HBO上的剧集常常风格独具。《抑制热情》显得特别生活化，很是写意，有很多现场发挥，刚开始播时观众圈不大，之后开始名声见长。拉里·大卫凭此剧获艾美奖2000年度喜剧类剧集最佳男主角提名。
　　本剧是根据拉里·大卫当初在洛杉矶演艺圈的亲身经历改变而成，并由大卫自编自演而成的喜剧。把《Seinfeld》的风格推向了极端化。通过《抑制热情》让观众看到了大卫的正直、大方和谦虚，这位创作大师通过HBO带给观众无数的欢笑。而剧情游弋在真实与虚构之间，大卫和演员们把真实的洛杉矶生活呈现在银幕上，就仿佛有一架摄影机，随时把那真实的经历实况转播给观众一样。更重要的是，本剧本身是没有剧本的，往往依靠演员们的即兴表演赋予演出进度和新鲜感。而这造就了本剧的变幻莫测和与众不同。

　　卢修斯·里昂（泰伦斯·霍华德饰）是一名超级音乐明星兼帝国娱乐公司的创始人，娱乐大鳄身患绝症，于是他决定在自己的三个儿子中挑选继承人。大儿子虎视眈眈，小儿子整天沉迷酒色，二儿子因同性恋从小就被老爸嫌弃。就在此时，大鳄老婆提前出狱，发誓夺回属于自己的一半财产，使得钱权争夺大战一触即发。

　　《鬼入侵》是雪莉·杰克逊同名经典小说的现代改编版，讲述了在美国最有名的鬼屋中长大的五个兄弟姐妹的故事。成年后，他们因为最小的妹妹的自杀而重新聚到一起，迫使他们最终面对与自身过往有关的鬼魂，一些潜伏在他们的心中，还有一些潜伏在这幢著名的山之屋（Hill House）的阴暗处。

　　Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy is heavily influenced by the worlds of art and music. It's smart, ambitious, like Salvador Dali and Mick Jagger recreating The Jungle Book.
