日本长崎，早已年过半百的冈野雄一（岩松了 饰）就像一个长不大的孩子，他在单位混混度日，得过且过，反倒更乐于在酒吧驻唱和创作漫画。日常里雄一和耄耋之年的母亲三枝（赤木春惠 饰）以及儿子真崎（大和田健介 饰）住在一起。爷俩外出赚钱，经常留老太太独自在家。三枝婆婆许多年前就换上了阿兹海默症，她日常里颠三倒四，状况不断，令雄一父子疲于奔命。随着老太太的病情一天天加重，雄一只得痛下决心将母亲送入专门的护理机构。三枝婆婆当下的记忆一天天衰退，而关于儿时的玩伴、早逝的丈夫（加濑亮 饰）的记忆却日渐清晰起来。老人家早已分不清过去与现在、生与死的界限。那些生命中最重要的人，依次来到了她的身边…… 　　本片根据冈野雄一以家族故事为蓝本创作的四格漫画改编，影片荣获2013年电影旬报十佳影片第一名。

　　故事发生在1961年的美国南部，早熟的女孩莱维伦（达科塔·范宁 Dakota Fanning 饰）和奶奶拉米（派珀·劳瑞 Piper Laurie 饰）相依为命，有时候，莱维伦也会回到父亲的身边，可是这个男人暴躁的脾气的粗鲁的举动总让她遍体鳞伤。通过父亲新女友，莱维伦第一次领略了音乐带给她的奇妙感受，从此走上了追逐音乐的道路。
　　一次偶然中，莱维伦结识了名叫查尔斯（阿非莫·奥米拉 Afemo Omilami 饰）的黑人园丁，两人十分投缘。和男孩巴迪（科迪·汉福德 Cody Hanford 饰）在农舍躲雨时，两人初尝了禁果，莱维伦因此被父亲一顿暴打。为了筹钱购买猫王演唱会的门票，莱维伦出卖了自己的歌声，没想到换来的却是轻薄和冒犯，生活第一次向莱维伦露出了真正残酷的一面。

二战时期的瑞士苏黎世，德国歌女Willie（汉娜·许古拉 Hanna Schygulla饰）和犹太作曲家Robert Mendelsson （吉安卡罗·吉安尼尼 Giancarlo Giannini 饰）相恋，而Robert的父亲Mendelsson则是一个帮助犹太人逃离德国的地下组织领导，他反对儿子和Willie的恋情，于是设下圈套让Willie留在了德国无法回到苏黎世，想借此来拆散二人。滞留德国的Willie只能靠唱歌维生，受到了许多德国人，甚至德国军官的喜爱。更得到了去电台录制音乐的机会，她唱的一首歌《Lili Marleen》更是让她成为了全德国士兵的梦中情人。这首歌曲陪伴着在前线的士兵们。而回到瑞士的Robert也没有放弃两人的爱情，他潜回德国和Willie相聚，不想却被纳粹所抓。而对Robert一往情深的Willie，又该如何利用她在德国...

　　Gilded by a soundscape that interweaves work by emerging and pioneering electronic musicians, Queens of the Qing Dynasty is an offbeat ode to neurodiversity and genderqueer individuals who refuse to conform. Director Ashley McKenzie’s blend of formalism and gritty realism does not fail to surprise and treats the audience to flashes of visual and conceptual poetry. Her cast is entirely composed of first-time actors who convincingly convey how unique every individual is, both in how they see the world and how they relate to others. Ziyin Zheng in the role of An graciously embodies a mix of idiosyncrasy and frankness that makes them an ideal confidante for Star (Sarah Walker). They have what it takes to be on the receiving end of the scrutinising gaze of Star, who sees through conventions and never ceases to be amazed at life’s bewildering events. Veering on slapstick, Walker’s performance will not go unnoticed.
